What would be a fair price for this laptop currently?
Thanks man for the amazing review 👏🏻 i just wanna ask you if this laptop good foe video editing ( adobe premeir pro , photoshop .. color correcrion .. , medium tasks , not 3D editing .. ) Is its carte grafic good for this level of the above tasks !
I mean L14 i5 1145G7 16/512
It should be able to handle medium level projects in 1080p. The more demanding the project, the more powerful machine you'll need. One thing I will say is because you mentioned colour correction, these don't have great colour accurate panel options so you might want to consider other options with more colour accurate displays.
@@LaptopRetrospective thank you man , can you please suggest me a good thinkpad laptop model that can handle color correction well ! Is it related to the graphics card or the type of screen?
Colour accuracy is related to the panel. You'd be looking for 100% srgb or Adobe. These displays are more common on P series and X1 series. The rest is really dependent on your budget.
PC gaming can be cheap when you get old abandonware for free and buy a cheap used laptop. :) And it's much better than today's microtransaction infested P2W/Gambling/Predatory Grinding games.
A simpler time.
Any chance of you doing a HP ZBook soon? These are quite unpopular online as far as workstations go, especially with ThinkPads taking all the fame from what I've seen.
HP business machines are very rare here. So unless HP sends me one or one falls into my lap one day, it might be a while.
Thanks for this! After 24 years of Development I can truly say that few laptops can match the Lenovo P series. I currently work on a P15v i7-12800H with 32GB RAM #ForThoseWhoDo
Now that is a beast of a machine! What do you use it for?
Currently, for large Java projects. I use IntelliJ, eclipse, SQL Server, Javascript (VS Code for those) , DBeaver for easy db queries, Beyond Compare, NotePad++, Teams, Slack and Brave just to name a few. Most of them are running on a permanent basis. During dev sessions I use more than 50% RAM, but the CPU is idling. These machines are really tough. Anyway, before sounding too much like a Lenovo salesman I can truly say that I just love Lenovo machines.
I feel the same way about my X1 Nano. Love that machine to bits.
This was great. Just had to open one to put in a SSD. Would not known where all the screws are otherwise and the credit card thingy also was very handy.
Glad I was able to help.
This is not a laptop. Its a work of art. Just finished troubleshooting it, and of course dissasembly it. I will save this boy for the history books
It is indeed a piece of history.
A perfect time to rewatch this video, when Lenovo is flooding the market with Thinkpad notches
Not sure what you mean by notches.
@@LaptopRetrospective Most (I think all) 2024 Thinkpads now have a camera bump at the top of the display. Some people say it's purposeful evolution, and some say it's just a change for change sake.
The camera bump I think is to make room for the higher resolution cameras people want for conferencing and such. As the tech gets better and smaller, it will probably disappear when it is no longer needed.
They changed the fan? Interesting. I wonder why they did that.
Thats op for osu bruh
Can the type C port used for charging and data transfer at the same time with a splitter cable?
can i upgrade the ram to 16 if i bought the 8gb one
RAM is soldered so you will need to swap the whole system board.
Dell better!, lenovo Bad laptop i dont recommend, the computer shop owner sold it to me without pen, without 5ghz wifi card, screen got damaged because j pressed it fast to like a youtube comment and now i cant unlock its ssd slot and its bios password even with the reset button and removing cmos battery 😡👎
Sounds like a really bad seller.
Can you put an m.2 ssd (NVMe) on this?
Nope. Too old. Unless you got the Express Card M.2 kit but that won't give you the speed.
@@LaptopRetrospective thx good sir, great detailed answer.
You're most welcome.
you should look at the L14 amd versions, they could be a good way to obtain upgradable amd machines on a budget
I'll keep my eyes open.
I just love my P15v with a i7-12800H with 32GB Ram. I do a lot of heavy dev and it just idles most of the time.
Nice configuration. 👍
INSTALL tiny 11
It's on my list of things to try but I'll probably do it on older hardware.
Bonjour, au mien j ai une fente sur le côté gauche a quoi sert elle?
Best to check the manual. Depending on the size it could be a Smart Card port.
Technically this machine can run 256gb memory even though 128gb is the limit for the processor
Any benefits if the CPU limit is only 128GB?
@@LaptopRetrospective no 😂😂
Do you work for a laptop refurbishing business or something? I find it very interesting that you managed to get your hands on so many ThinkPads over time.
No I don't but I can understand why you'd think that. 😁 I do have some friends that do and let me play with things from time to time. I also am that person that helps family and friends find machines and sometimes I film them before they move on.
I'd say that P15v Gen 3 can be an interesting choice. It offers amd cpu, up to A2000 GPU, two SSDs, SD card reader, UHD panel. I don't understand WWAN whitelists by Lenovo. There is no reason to prevent users from using the slot for a 2nd drive.
Haven't had a v variant in the channel yet. Maybe one day. The WWAN slot issues isn't always whitelist, sometimes they don't run the right lanes to the socket.
Not a bad machine for a bit of light duty.
Indeed. For a few dollars more or sometimes the same price as a T series.
Sadly it's impossible to get it with Ryzen because it would compete with X1 Extreme if there was one (and lenovo def doesn't want that) that's why x13/t14 are the only modern choices if you want normal 1.8mm travel keyboard with high trackpoint buttons and top build quality
The Ps variants aren't usually my go to either. Probably wouldn't be brand new but I'm not their main customer.
Daisy daisy ins ibm 704
Did all t410 come with an Nvidia GPU, or were they optional?
Optional.
i decided to use one that was left with me (they abandonded it with me after i did the repair - ie never got paid) and didn't like how windows 10 started to get sluggish about 2 months into using it as a daily driver. after a week or two of having left it be i decided to repurpose it as an Android testbed. after a week of trying different distros i landed on Bliss Zenith (Android 13 based x86 port) and installed Sketchbook just for giggles. i was floored. i thoght the app wouldn't even load but it not only loaded but the pen input was like carving soft butter. GLORIOUS. this has become the cheapest stand-alone art tablet i recommend regularly. one reason i was so flabbergasted was because i also tried Sketchbook under Windows 10 on this same device and the input lag was terrible. more recently i installed the XBox Gamepass app on this device (i'm typing this on my G1 Yoga rn within Opera open to UA-cam. HI!) and the cloud gaming works great on this within Bliss IF you have a controller that supports DirectInput (XInput seems broken in Bliss Zenith). ofc cloud gaming comes with the twin caveats of good and responsive broadband and a good wifi router BUT Bliss can handle it if you can tick those three boxes. i've even used DaVinci Resolve on Windows 10 on this device and it works well enough but the renders will take some time so.. edit on the go and send your project to a beefier machine for encoding. easy-peasy. so, media consumption? yup! sketching tablet/content creation? yeah! gaming on the cloud? VERY YES. not bad at all for an 8 year old platform.
I personally always thought that first 2 generations of L14 kinda carrying a resemblance of the T480, they're quite similar in design term. Only real difference is type of storage: T480 can use 2.5" SSD, L14 gen 1/2 can't.
Yes, by this point 2.5" storage is becoming a little antiquated from a generational perspective.
Thanks for the review. I think the keyboard is world class luxury. Does anyone know of a similar PC keyboard. I am looking to replicate the feel of the Lenovo X1 keyboard.
You can purchase a TrackPoint keyboard for a similar experience.
It's not the track point but the key feeling, travel etc that makes it so good.
It is a very similar feeling keyboard. Some might argue better but these things are often subjective.
Sorry. I don't know what you are talking about. I am looking for a PC keyboard.

Can it run autodesk autocad, revit etc.?
I don't use those programs myself but my first recommendation is to check the system requirements of the software.
I wish they still make a laptop like this
There is something cool about the mechanical nature of it. 😎
what is the PART NUMBER for the cdrom drive?both of my dock stations did not come with one.
It is an UltraBay Slim form factor so any drive that is used for that should fit.
I could not find the whitelist removal video. I have a Lenovo G560, and want to do this.
The process I know doesn't work for the G560.
Hello bro do you know if this could working with low profile gpus? Or only GTX? I'm trying what this work in my hp 8470p but i only see something about root dsdt override by error 12. It's so hard.
As far as I know, any PCI GPU. Egpu.io might have more information.
i bought the GaN 100w charger to replace a defect charger for MSI Flip 2 in 1 laptop, it works fine, however, the GaN charger does not work for my Lenovo Thinkpad X1 2 in 1 yoga 7 laptop. Do you know why?
Interesting. Can you provide more information on the charger and cable?
I got the i7 but i need to change the graphic card
Pretty sure any dedicated GPU will be soldered on these. Can't remember.
@@LaptopRetrospective can i upgrade the motherboard?
You could but you are limited to the best configuration they made at that time.
Great video. Thank you.
You're welcome!
@LaptopRetrospective is the 3390 a good laptop for UX Design?
Depending on the complexity of what you are doing and the system resources needed for your tasks. Checking system requirements will be very important of your most demanding programs vs the configuration of the machine.
@@LaptopRetrospective for running figma and the rest. I'm considering the cost and size. Especially after enjoying the slimness of the HP Stream 13
Thank you for your professional review!👍 I would like to answer the questions mentioned in the video for you. The reason why your computer cannot access this page is that the two are in different local area networks. The URL of the configuration interface can only be accessed by devices in the same LAN. If you connect the computer and Mini Dock to the same LAN, the computer can also access the website.
Thanks for the comment. Both devices were connected to the same network. It did work earlier for me to capture some footage but then it stopped working. Not sure if a firmware update caused the issue or not.
You cant really use these with a browser on UA-cam to play videos ....things have changed a lot since 2010/12 what you do is download a program called Sm Tube and Sm Player ...you can then play video on your desktop without using the browser . I in fact use VLC with Sm Tube which can be configured ....then i can play videos at 720p no problem without killing the CPU like the browser does .
Interesting workaround. Thanks for sharing.
I'm having a bit of a mystery problem with my Lenovo w540. (a mystery to me because I'm not a pc technician... :P ) I use it to build in games. And i keep having severe problems with lag. It has 16 gb of Ram so that should be ok. But im thinking maybe it's the CPU or GPU that gives me problems? I have IntelR HD graphics4600 screen card and one called Nvidia quadro K2100M somewhere in the specs, it claims the platform role is Mobil. But i don't know if this is a settings problem or related to anything else. Or of importance at all. The processor name shows up 8 times under processor and is named Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4800MQ CPU @ 2.70GHz, 2694 Mhz, 4 kjerne(r), 8 logiske prosessor(er) From this information could anyone see what could cause an issue or recommend a good upgrade?
What specific games are you building in?
@@LaptopRetrospective Hi thank you for answering :) There is a few, Ylands, Garden paws, Stranded deep and green hell are the ones i built the most in. I am currently mostly into Ylands. this also have an editor feature where one can create builds with scripted features as well.
No problem. What are the system requirements for these platforms? The GPU is a workstation unit and sometimes doesn't perform in the same way.
@@LaptopRetrospective I would think it varies a bit? But i was within limits and allowed to install them, i think. This is the specs for the one I'm using now and experienced lag in. Minimum requirements: Memory: 6 GB RAM Graphics Card: Intel HD 520 CPU: Intel Core i3-4160 File size: 2 GB OS: Windows 7/8/8.1/10/11 (64-bit Operating System Required) Recommended system requirements: Memory: 8 GB RAM Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K File size: 2 GB OS: Windows 7/8/8.1/10/11 (64-bit Operating
Yeah the K2100 isn't a powerhouse. So you are sitting between minimum and recommend settings for GPU performance.
These docks must be a coming thing as I just saw a few similar items on AliExpress but I just use my cell phone for the time and have a docking unit for my laptop. Cheers from Edmonton.
Yes, not a device for everyone but something interesting to tinker with. I'm curious to see what people might create.
Have this model a good battery?
Depends on your expectations. Most modern laptops in the last 3-4 years can do a workday on one charge depending on use.
Oh, I'm reluctant to let sketchy items onto my wifi, otherwise it looks a bit of fun.
Understand how you feel on that. Security needs to come first.
I known the importance of security, but I guess this little thing is only connecting to the internet to obtain time, weather, and some simple data. I think privacy is important, but I think it is so simple. As the blogger said, the CPU seems to have weak computing power, so it should not be able to access these private data. In other words, your phone can access much more than it can, why is it allowed to connect to your WiFi?
Learn how to setup a VLAN on your local network. Life changing. Let all the IOT crap run on its own VLAN separate from your PC and cellphone VLAN.
That 1200p 16;10 display with the traditional features and still (kinda) usable hardware, a rare but beatiful combination.
I kinda want to try Tiny 11 on it.
First played duke nukem 3d on my dads one ❤
Nice!
I bought 3 last year in a lot for $175, no batteries or drives but with 8GB in each one. Wonderful machines for playing around with different Linux distros.
Excellent use!
